Have you ever wondered about crucifixion?
Romans could get a whole city to surrender without fighting by telling them that all its inhabitants (M,W,& C) would be crucified.
So how did one Man who believed in Gods plan turn willingly to this death?

I see you are new here! I don't run the JU or anything, but let me be the first to welcome you here!!

I've often wondered why the cross is given such a vaulted status among Christians. Even Christians from different denominations of Christianity can't seem to agree on much when it comes to the proper configuration and display of the crucifix.

Some say that Christ should have his face upward, with his eyes away from the great sin being perpetrated against Him and fixed on the ultimate goal of returning to Heaven. Others insist that Christ's face should be downcast, because the point of the cross is that he died for our sins. Still others point out that the true meaning of the cross (and the tomb also) is that Christ is no longer on the cross.

To me, if He is no longer on the cross, what is the point of all the arguing in the first place? As you point out here, many were threatened with crucifixion (and many were actually crucified). The Good News is, Jesus paid the price for the sins of all who would accept His sacrifice and left the cross to rot.

If we are to follow his example and be like Him, shouldn't we leave the cross behind also?

Your comments are very insightful and I enjoyed reading them because I had no idea that people argued over such things!
You are right that Jesus left the cross behind. After being suspended for six hours before dying from suffocation and blood loss, he sufferend worse than any person, past present or future.
I'm sure his eyes were lifted up at some points and down cast at others. It is where his heart was that counts at the end of the day. At all times it was seeking the fathers will.
If we are to follow Jesus, it must be his heart and not necessarily his feet that we follow.
